Palakkad: Police on Thursday registered cases against BJP and Youth Congress activists in connection with the tension during the protest marches held by both parties on Wednesday.
Police booked 16 BJP workers who took part in the march to the MLA's office. Similarly, a case was also registered against Youth Congress leaders who marched towards the BJP office. Youth Congress district president Jayaghosh and 19 people were named in the case.
Meanwhile, Rahul Mamkootathil, MLA, turned down a request from police to hold talks with BJP leaders to resolve the issue.
"There is nothing to discuss with BJP leaders who issued threats to sever heads and legs. Instead, a case should be registered against them," he told reporters. "We don't want any mediation. Congress is not interested in holding talks with them behind closed doors. It is police's duty to maintain law and order," he added.
Mamkootathil and the other leaders staged a sit-in protest in front of South police station, alleging police action against party workers during a march taken out to the BJP office on Wednesday night.
According to Congress leaders, the march was taken out in protest against an alleged threat speech targeting Mamkootathil by BJP leaders.
