Calcu​tta HC orders stay on probe against BJP neta Mithun Chakraborty

The Calcutta high court has ordered a stay on the police investigation against BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty for allegedly making a provocative speech at a BJP event last year. The court also instructed the police not to take any coercive action against him. BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar termed the FIR as political vendetta.

KOLKATA: Calcutta high court on Tuesday ordered a stay on the police investigation against actor-turned BJP neta Mithun Chakraborty based on an FIR accusing him of delivering a provocative speech at an event on Oct 27 last year.
Justice Suvra Ghosh also ordered police not to take any “coercive step” against him.
Chakraborty, addressing a BJP membership drive at Salt Lake’s Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah, had said: “In 2026, the masnad (throne) will be ours, and we will do everything to achieve this goal.”
