Koratkar flies off to Mumbai after release from Kalamba jail on bail
Kolhapur: Nagpur-based journalist Prashant Koratkar left for the Kolhapur airport where he took a flight to Mumbai soon after he was released from the Kalamba Central Jail on bail on Friday.
He was lodged in the jail for 15 days, including 10 days of judicial custody, in the case of causing enmity between communities and making objectionable comments on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during an alleged threatening call to historian Indrajit Sawant.
On Wednesday, the sessions court in Kolhapur granted bail to Koratkar. "We did not receive the court order on his release till Thursday as the sessions court ordered the bail to be taken from the trial court of JMFC. It was only around 2.15pm on Friday that we received the court order. Accordingly, Koratkar was handed over to the police," a jail officer said.
"A relative of Koratkar booked a flight ticket to Mumbai for him," the police said.
