Kolhapur: A farmer from Ajara tehsil of Kolhapur district, who went to graze his goats, was attacked by a Gaur on Monday.
The farmer sustained injuries to his head, chest, rib and nose. The farmer was hospitalised at a private hospital in Gadhinglaj. This has been the third Gaur attack in Ajara in March 2025. Two days ago, another victim Ajit Kamble succumbed to injuries of a Gaur attack that took place on March 31.
The medical expenses of the injured person would be borne by the forest department. Range forest officer for Ajara, Manoj Kumar Koli, said, "The farmer Chandrakant Bhiku Konduskar (50), resident of Sohale Bachi village, was attacked by a Gaur on Monday when he went to an area called ‘Khadak' for grazing his goats."
The gaur was in the bushes and suddenly attacked the farmer. The attack threw him up in the air. "With the help of locals, he was hospitalised at Ajara Rural Hospital for primary treatment and then shifted to a private hospital at Gadhinglaj. We have been monitoring the health condition of the farmer. His head, ribs, chest and nose were injured in the attack. The medical expenses would be borne by the forest department and an immediate help of 5 thousand rupees has been given to the family of the injured farmer," added Koli.
Meanwhile, the local farmers are worried as the gaur attacks in Ajara tehsil are witnessing a rise. In the last month, three gaur attacks have been reported from Ajara tehsil. The local farmers have been demanding a permanent solution from the forest department officials over the menace.
