Kochi: As part of strengthening vigilance against waste dumping and punishing defaulters, Kochi corporation health wing imposed a fine on a person for dumping waste in Perandoor Canal. Officials imposed a fine of Rs 12,500 on Arun Kishore, a resident of Felt Complex on Green Triple Line in Elamakkara north division.
Corporation officials took action based on a complaint filed by a local who alleged that Kishore and another person threw waste, including plastic covers, into the canal after bursting firecrackers near his apartment complex on Monday night. Health department officials who arrived at the scene conducted an inspection and found garbage in the canal. After questioning the security at the apartment complex, it was learned that Kishore and another person burst crackers that day.
On questioning, Kishore admitted that he committed the offence. He was made to remove the garbage from the canal. Health inspector Prajeesh Kumar said a case was registered against another woman who dumped the garbage, and she could not be contacted by phone.
