Hyderabad: Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced on Sunday that a notification will soon be issued for the recruitment of 3,038 employees in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC).
"Now that the SC categorisation has come into effect, the state govt has given the green light for recruitment in the RTC, with SC sub-classification being made applicable. Of the 3,038 posts, as many as 2,000 are for drivers, 743 for labour work, and 84 for deputy superintendents (traffic), among other positions," he said.
‘Focus on people welfare'
The minister expressed happiness at the launch of this long-awaited recruitment drive and stated that the process would be completed as soon as possible. "It's a great opportunity for unemployed youth," he added. He reiterated the Congress govt's commitment to the welfare of the people, particularly youth, women, farmers, and other marginalised sections of society, and highlighted the successful implementation of the free travel scheme for women on RTC buses, introduced as part of the Mahalakshmi guarantee.
"Over 165 crore trips have been made by women under this scheme so far, saving about 5,500 crore cumulatively in travel expenses. With the recent purchase of new buses under the Mahalakshmi scheme, the RTC is now ready to expand its workforce. The 3,038 vacancies to be filled include positions such as drivers, workers, deputy superintendents (traffic and mechanical), depot managers, assistant engineers (mechanical and civil), section officers, accounts officers, and medical officers," he said.
Further notifications likely
Ponnam noted that the Congress govt has already issued appointment letters to nearly 60,000 candidates for various govt positions and assured that further notifications will be released in accordance with job calendar.
