Absconding BRS ex-MLA Shakeel Amir arrives in Hyderabad from Dubai to attend mother’s funeral
Hyderabad: BRS’ former Bodhan MLA Shakeel Amir, who has been in Dubai for the last one-and-a-half years and is an accused in a 2023 accident case involving his son, returned to Hyderabad on Thursday. Shakeel had contacted police on Wednesday night to inform he wanted to return as his mother was on her deathbed and assured cops of cooperation with the investigation.
An hour after Shakeel spoke to the cops, his mother passed away.
On Thursday morning, when he arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), he was first detained by immigration authorities as there was a Look-Out Circular (LOC) pending against him.
Police later allowed Shakeel to meet his family and complete the last rites. He is expected to appear before the investigators soon.
The LOC was issued by Panjagutta police after he was made an accused in the accident case involving son Raheel Amir on the night of Dec 24, 2023. Raheel had allegedly hit a barricade at high speed near Praja Bhavan in Somajiguda. But Shakeel, who was in Dubai, is alleged to have called up then Panjagutta inspector Durga Rao to declare one of his aides as the car driver instead of Raheel. He is also alleged to have helped his son escape to Dubai.
The whole conspiracy came to light after senior officers ordered a probe. Subsequently, Shakeel was made an accused and an LOC issued against him. Since then Shakeel has stayed put in Dubai.
Apart from the Panjagutta case, Shakeel is expected to be made an accused in another accident case involving his son in 2022 in Jubilee Hills in which a toddler had died.
Raheel had earlier returned to the city in April last year after the Telangana high court allowed his plea to quash the LOC against him. He was arrested at the airport on his arrival. He is currently out on bail.
