Aizawl: A 40-year-old worker, Khalil Uddin Barbhuiya, allegedly murdered his 35-year-old wife, Hassan Begum Barbhuiya, by slitting her throat inside their farm hut at the Zukbual wet-rice cultivation area near Buhchangphai in Kolasib district, bordering Assam. The incident occurred on Friday, police said on Sunday.
Police said Khalil used a dao (machete) to kill his wife, who died instantly. The suspect fled the scene, and a massive manhunt is underway to apprehend him. A
murder case has been registered at the Vairengte police station near the Assam border.
Reports suggest that Hassan had visited her home in Katlicherra village of Assam's Hailakandi district on March 25 with her husband's permission. However, she reportedly eloped with a man suspected to be her lover. Upon learning this, Khalil and his friends searched for her, eventually bringing her back to the Zukbual farm hut, where the murder took place.
A post-mortem examination was conducted on Hassan's body at Kolasib district hospital on Saturday, after which her remains were transported to her native village in Hailakandi district, police said.
