Aizawl: Mizoram governor Gen VK Singh expressed confidence that the state's first-ever international half marathon held in Aizawl on Saturday morning will soon become one of the most popular and sought after sporting events in India.
Singh, who also serves as the patron of the Aizawl International Half Marathon, 2025 (AIHM 2025), graced the closing and felicitation ceremony of the event at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl. AIHM 2025 is being jointly organised by Mizoram govt's sports & youth services department, the Athletic Federation of India and Innovations India Pvt Ltd.
The governor lauded the successful hosting of the AIHM 2025 and underscored the importance of organising even bigger and more inclusive events in the future, aiming for greater participation and public engagement.
He applauded sports minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, the Athletic Federation of India, Innovations India Pvt Ltd, and all associated organisers for their dedicated efforts. He further urged all marathon runners to continue striving for physical fitness and health.
Hmar also expressed gratitude for the successful hosting of AIHM 2025 and praised the involvement of participants, especially those from outside the state. Taking this opportunity, the sports minister declared that the next AIHM is scheduled for Feb 14 next year, with hopes for even greater participation. He also appreciated the enthusiasm of all participants this year and extended an open invitation for the next edition.
Over 1,500 participants joined AIHM 2025, flagged off at 6.30am by sports & youth services minister from Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. There were four categories: Half Marathon (21.1km), Open Race (10km), Fun Race (5km) and Junior Category (5km). The race route started from Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, ran through World Bank Road and finished back at the stadium. The total prize money worth Rs 10 lakh was awarded.
