Vasco: Councillors grilled Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Girish Borkar and opposed his proposal to notify the new fish market project during a special meeting on Tuesday. Borkar deferred the notification of the fish market to the next meeting on Friday.Councillors Fredrick Henriques, Yatin Kamurlekar, and Deepak Naik highlighted issues with giving fish vendors a free hand and allocating them space in the new fish market.They urged the chairperson to draft guidelines and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with vendors to help the council secure the legal rights over the fish market.They also objected to the urgent repairs of staff quarters without preparing a technical report after the technical team's site inspection, citing safety concerns.
The council has resolved to take over the dilapidated Hindu crematorium at Khariwada, Vasco. A proposal to install an electric furnace was postponed.It also resolved not to allow outsiders at the Bogda Hindu crematorium, alleging illegal activities and harming its reputation.The council also decided to issue NOC for the redevelopment of the municipal market, modern market, and Sunday market as proposed by Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar.
