Man’s death in police custody: Statements of 4, including 2 cops, recorded
New Delhi: Statements of four people, including two policemen, were recorded in connection with the case of a man who died while in police custody in southwest Delhi's Kapashera. His family alleged custodial torture.
Sources said a judicial inquiry was ordered into the matter. During the inquiry, statements from four people, including two policemen who were present in the police vehicle from which Ravi Sahni, alias Ravi Kaliya (19), allegedly jumped and got injured, were recorded. He was later declared dead. The statement of Vikas (28), a friend of Ravi who also tried to escape and got injured, was recorded too. "The statement of a security guard was also recorded," sources added.

Police said they were waiting for the judicial inquiry report, after which they would take further action.
Around 3 pm on Tuesday, head constable Balbir Singh and constable Nitesh noticed Vikas and Ravi on a motorcycle behaving suspiciously. When signalled to stop, the suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended after a brief chase. During a personal search, one country-made pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from Vikas. The motorcycle was also seized as it was found to be stolen in a case reported in Palam Village. A case was registered.
Both the accused were medically examined following their arrest and were being transported in a govt vehicle to the police lock-up at the Vasant Kunj North police station. Police said that during the transit, both the accused jumped from the slow-moving vehicle while it was turning and sustained abrasion injuries. They were immediately taken to a hospital, where Ravi was declared dead.
