'You will face the wrath of God': Pastor defends jailed preacher Bajinder Singh, calls opponents 'curbs of fox'; daughter Ekta delivers brief sermon
CHANDIGARH: A day after the sentencing of self-styled Christian ‘prophet?Bajinder Singh in a rape case from 2018, his daughter, ‘prophet?Ekta, delivered a brief sermon. This sermon, recorded earlier in a congregation, was streamed from his ministry’s Facebook page. Later, a fasting prayer session was also live-streamed in the evening. Bajinder had, in the past, presented Ekta in his congregations. An Amritsar-based pastor, Sukhwinder Raja, also sought support for Bajinder, appealing for “full support?to him and calling his opponents “cubs of fox?
He cited a Biblical example of a female pig returning to a mud puddle after being given a bath. “Warning to opponents O, cubs of fox, Jesus’s preaching would not stop with murder or throwing in jail,?read a poster with pastor Sukhwinder Raja’s brief speech in a congregation on his ministry’s Facebook page, which he posted on Monday and Tuesday.
“God will slap them. It is written in the Bible that a female pig was given a bath, but it returned to the mud from where it was taken out by God... You will face the wrath of God; rather, your generations would face it,?he said. “Sant Naresh Paul was killed in 2010 to stop Jesus’s message, and now it would not be stopped by throwing pastor Bajinder in jail. God will slap them, and they will keep on flipping…they will see the results here,?he said.
Would invite Bollywood actors
Bajinder Singh, who is serving a life sentence in a rape case, would invite Bollywood actors to grand Christmas celebrations at his church, often promoting their attendance through publicized names and promo videos.
In 2023, these events sparked a controversy between Bajinder’s supporters and “pastor?Ankur Narula’s followers after the latter criticised remarks made at Bajinder’s gathering. That December, Christmas celebrations in Jalandhar and Chandigarh saw the presence of Bollywood celebrities like Prem Chopra, Jaya Prada, Rajpal Yadav, Gulshan Grover, Upasna Singh, Mahima Chaudhary, Kiku Sharda, Krishna Abhishek, and Rakhi Sawant. Earlier, Sunil Shetty had also joined a shobha yatra in Chandigarh.
During the congregation, Bajinder made prophecies about some of the attending actors. He claimed that Rajpal Yadav, who doesn’t have a son, would soon be blessed with one, and told Upasna Singh that she would acquire the house she had been searching for.
While addressing the crowd, Bajinder mentioned that he had admired Mahima Chaudhary during his school days but had since changed due to his devotion to Masih (Christ). In response, Gulshan Grover jokingly added that his admiration for her had not faded with age. Shortly after, Narula criticized the event in an online sermon, condemning what he called "shameful talk on the pulpit" and urging people to stay away from such gatherings, especially on New Year's Eve.
Narula’s remarks triggered backlash from the International Masih Ekta Committee, which supports Bajinder, claiming his comments had hurt the sentiments of the Tajpur church and Christian leaders. The following day, Ankur Narula Ministries' Management Committee president, Jatinder Masih ‘Gaurv,?issued a statement demanding Bajinder apologize for what he called inappropriate remarks made during the Christmas event.
In the previous year’s celebrations, actors Jaya Prada, Raza Murad, Arbaz Khan, Tushar Kapoor, and comedian Sunil Pal were among the main guests, along with former MP Sushil Rinku.
