CHANDIGARH: The UT police arrested two persons for allegedly robbing cash and a mobile phone from a person at knifepoint in Sector 53. Police produced both accused before the local court and obtained their police remand for further interrogation.
The Sector 36 police said the accused were identified as Shivam Singh alias Kaku, 27, and Saurav alias Lala, 23. Both accused are residents of Sector 25, UT.
The victim,
Arup Mondal, 36, a resident of Sunny Enclave, Kharar, Mohali, stated that while he was walking at Spring Garden in Sector 53, Chandigarh, at around 8 pm, two unknown persons riding a black motorcycle approached and allegedly started abusing him on February 24, 2025.
Later, one of the miscreants allegedly took out a knife and placed it on his back. The other person forcibly took his phone from the left side pocket of the victim’s trousers.
After intimidating him, they unlocked his phone and allegedly transferred Rs 8,000 from his phone to another number from his account linked using Google Pay. Later, the accused also fled the scene with his phone.
On the statement of Arup Mondal, the Sector 36 police registered a case against unknown persons and started a probe. During the course of the investigation, police identified both accused from Sector 25 and claimed to have recovered the snatched mobile phone and bike used in the crime from their possession.
Police said both accused are drug addicts and committed the crime to fulfil their drug desire.
