IPL betting racket busted in Mohali, 3 arrested

IPL betting racket busted in Mohali, 3 arrested
Mohali: Acting swiftly on intelligence, police busted a major IPL betting racket in Mohali with the arrest of three.
The suspects were betting on the Punjab Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match. Twelve mobile phones, four laptops, Rs 47,000 in Indian currency, 800 US dollars, 2,000 AED dirham, two LED television sets, and two cars bearing the registration numbers of Chandigarh and Derabassi in Mohali were seized from them. The total number of recovered items stands at 20, police said.
They have been identified as Ashu Garg alias Abhishek Garg, a resident of Gali Ganga Ram, Bathinda; Ankit Singla, a resident of Sohi Home, Dhakoli, Mohali and Naresh Kapoor, a resident of Sector-69, Mohali.
The arrests were made during a raid conducted under the supervision of DSP (City-1) and Mataur police station house officer inspector, Kulwant Singh.
Chahal said, "All three were produced in court, which sent them to police remand."
Police said the accused were operating the betting syndicate using electronic devices to place wagers on live IPL matches, thereby cheating unsuspecting individuals. The racket was allegedly being run from multiple locations, including areas under the jurisdiction of Uttan police station.
A case under relevant sections has been registered against them and investigation is under way.
The operation was carried out on the directions of SSP (Mohali) Deepak Pareek and SP (City) Harbir Singh Atwal.
