JIND: Binain khap, a prominent and influential khap (social clan) of Haryana’s Jind district has decided that couples in live-in relationships and individuals involved in homosexuality will be socially boycotted. The Panchayat has always strived for the eradication of social evils and for a civilized society, said Raghubir Nain, national head of the Binain Khap and all-jatiya sarv Kkhap.
Khap leaders passed several resolutions in a meeting held at Danoda village on Sunday where social justice and empowerment minister Krishan Bedi was also present.
Raghubir Nain made it clear that currently, the society is facing issues that threaten the social fabric, and efforts are ongoing to control them. Love marriages are increasing these days. He clarified that Khap is not against love marriages but is in favor of making amendments. He stated that love marriages should involve the consent of the parents and that such marriages should not happen within the same village, gotra, or neighbourhood.
Additionally, the Khap humbly requested the honorable judiciary to impose a complete ban on social evils like live-in relationships and homosexuality, he said.
He further mentioned that considering the environment, there should be more focus on tree plantation to keep the environment clean. He emphasized that the Khap would continue to work against social evils in Panchayat meetings and other social events.
However, various Khap officials also proposed the idea of regulating the time for DJ music and imposing restrictions on large feasts.
Talking to TOI, Raghubir Nain stated that khap members passed resolutions including reducing the mourning time from 12 days to 7 days, DJ playing time for any occasion was fixed from 6 pm to 11 pm, sought a complete ban on live in relationship and homosexuality, ban on deaths feast and ban on marriages within same village, same gotra and adjoining villages. Khap leaders will keep a tab on activities to ensure a smooth implementation of these resolutions.
The event was attended by former Uttar Pradesh minister Sahib Singh Nain, former MLA Prithvi Nambardar, Khap vice president Bhagat Ram Nain, Kalwan Tapa president Fakirchand Nain, Dhamtan Tapa president Preetam Singh, Rolad Tapa president Jagmal Nain and many others.
