Chandigarh: Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema Thursday said the AAP govt was waging a war against drugs and Punjab would soon become the first drug-free state in the country.
Cheema said 2,851 cases had been registered across the state under the NDPS Act, and 4,765 individuals involved in the drug trade were arrested and sent to jail. This apart, the govt demolished 55 illegal properties built using drug money and seized illicit assets linked to
drug trafficking, he added.
"The Punjab govt recovered Rs 5.93 crore in drug money while seizing 191 kg of heroin, 2,670 kg of poppy husk, and 92 kg of opium. This is a clear message to those involved in the drug trade that their days are numbered," he warned.
