Bhubaneswar: Results of the Plus II examination will be announced between May 15 and 20, the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) said on Sunday. "Evaluation of answer sheets is going on smoothly, and 99% of the process is complete. We will wind up the process on April 30," said Prasanta Kumar Parida, CHSE's controller of examinations.
In the wake of the severe heatwave conditions in western Odisha districts, the evaluation of answer sheets was partly affected. Sources said as the maximum temperature crossed 43 degrees Celsius in several western districts, some evaluators were not able to visit the evaluation centres.
Parida said that to deal with the heatwave conditions, CHSE made provisions for evaluation during the morning shifts. The council conducted the evaluation of answer sheets in a hybrid mode in two phases this year. In the first phase, 3,500 teachers evaluated science and commerce papers online, while 4,500 evaluators participated in the offline checking of arts and vocational answer sheets. In the second phase, which started on April 16, about 8,000 teachers were engaged in the evaluation of answer sheets.
CHSE had earlier announced that the results of the annual higher secondary examination, which began on Feb 18, would be announced 45 days after the exam. The 45-day deadline ended in the first week of April, attracting criticism from some students.
"If the council cannot meet the deadline, they should not announce it. The higher secondary results are important for the career advancement of a student, as many apply for higher education in other states," said Sanjay Sahu, a student.
A total of 3,91,809 regular and private students appeared for the Plus II examination in four streams. They comprised 2,45,987 in arts, 1,14,723 in science, 25,399 in commerce, and 5,700 in vocational streams.
