1 lakh ‘Jal Doots’ to lead water conservation push in MP
Bhopal: Over 1.06 lakh "Jal Doots" have been trained across the state to spread awareness about water conservation and protection of traditional water sources under the ongoing "Jal Ganga Samwardhan" campaign, officials informed CM Mohan Yadav at a review meeting here on Saturday.
The campaign, which began on March 30, will continue until June 30, and is being tracked via a dedicated dashboard.
He directed officials to document and restore architecturally significant water structures and ensure protection of ancient stepwells from encroachments. Cleanliness campaigns will be held at ancient stepwells (baodis) in cities such as Bhopal, Jabalpur, Sagar and Ujjain.
Departments, including Panchayat and Rural Development, Water Resources, Narmada Valley Development, and Forest, among others, shared updates on ongoing works. District collectors joined the meeting virtually.
Yadav said he would personally visit districts to inspect campaign activities. Schools have been asked to hold water-themed assemblies and competitions during festivals like Ganga Dussehra and Akshaya Tritiya to involve students.
Balaghat was praised for constructing 561 farm ponds — the highest in the state — followed by Anuppur (275) and Alirajpur (216). Seoni was noted for its work on Amrit Sarovars.
