Now, Electronics City Metro line may open only in early 2025
Bengaluru: Daily commuters travelling to Electronics City, enduring traffic snarls at Central Silk Board and other points, will have to wait longer to board Namma Metro train to the IT corridor. BMRCL, which had planned to start commercial operations on the 19-km line in Dec this year, has pushed the deadline to early 2025. The reason is obvious: Delay in supply of trainsets by the Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL).
BMRCL was expecting delivery of the first train from Titagarh by Aug, but that did not happen because of issues pertaining to safety and quality.
An official said the first trainset from Titagarh is likely to come either in Oct-end or beginning of Nov. "We need 7-8 trains to start commercial operations on the line, which we are expecting by Jan 2025," he said.
On Monday, Bangalore Central MP PC Mohan and and his Bangalore South counterpart Tejasvi Surya interacted with passengers by taking a Metro ride from KR Pura to Majestic. Surya said during the interaction, passengers expressed concern over repeated disruption of services owing to technical snags, especially during peak hours on Purple Line. Many passengers demanded additional loop trains to clear the rush.
