BENGALURU: A 37-year-old teashop owner from Maharashtra has been arrested for breaking into a locked house in Madiwala and fleeing with around 400 grams of gold and silver in the last week of Jan.
During investigation, it was found that the accused, Panchakshari Sangayya Swamy from Solapur in Maharashtra, was involved in 150-200 house break-in cases registered in Rajasthan, Telangana, and his home state. A divorcee, Swamy lives with his mother, a govt employee at Solapur.
Police recovered 180 grams of stolen gold and 150 grams of silver articles from the Madiwala house. According to Swamy, the remaining booty is with his partner in Uttar Pradesh. Cops are looking for the partner, who also allegedly took part in the Madiwala burglary.

Sabarmati police from Gujarat had arrested Swamy in 2016. He was imprisoned for five years. He was arrested in early 2024 by Mumbai police but walked out on bail by the year-end.
Visit to BengaluruAccording to Swamy, it was his first visit to Bengaluru in recent years. "Sometime in 2010, he claims to have stolen some valuables after breaking into a locked house in Whitefield. Since then, he hadn't visited the city. It was his UP partner who suggested Bengaluru as their target this Jan," an investigating officer said.
