Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A 25-year-old woman allegedly murdered her mother-in-law and fled the scene on Wednesday morning. The crime, committed in the Priyadarshini Colony near Bhokardan Naka of Jalna district, has stunned many. The accused, who entered the family through an arranged marriage six months ago, was arrested from Parbhani, at her parents' place, where she went into hiding.
The deceased, Savita Shingare (45), was the mother of Akash Shingare, a resident of village Vavre Antarwali in Gevrai tehsil of Beed district. Akash married Pratiksha six months ago. Following the wedding, Akash, who is employed with a cement company, was transferred from Jalna to Latur over a month ago. Due to his job posting, he moved to Latur, leaving his mother and wife to stay together in their rented home in Jalna.
Tensions arose between Savita and Pratiksha as the mother-in-law insisted that her daughter-in-law accompany her to their hometown in a village in Talwada, Beed district. However, Pratiksha wanted to go to Latur to stay with her husband. This led to frequent disagreements and heated arguments. On Tuesday night, an altercation escalated, and Pratiksha allegedly attacked her mother-in-law, stabbing her and smashing her head against the wall, ultimately leading to her death.
Additional Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopany, along with his subordinate officers, paid a spot visit and said that after committing the crime, Pratiksha attempted to dispose of the body by stuffing it into a gunny bag. She carried the sack to the stairs of the two-storeyed building but was unable to pull it further. She then abandoned it on the staircase and fled the scene.
The crime came to light on Wednesday morning when the house owner spotted blood dripping from the sack and grew suspicious. Upon checking the CCTV footage, he saw Pratiksha dragging the sack to the stairs before fleeing. He immediately alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and discovered Savita Shingare's lifeless body inside the sack.
The crime scene left the residents and law enforcement officials stunned. The police conducted a thorough on-site inspection and subsequently sent the body for post-mortem examination. Simultaneously, police teams were fanned out in different directions, including to Parbhani, from where she was nabbed post noon.
LCB Inspector Pankaj Deshmukh said that the accused confessed to stabbing her mother-in-law and smashing her head against the wall. Investigators are examining all possible angles, and authorities are speaking with neighbours and relatives to gather more information about the family dynamics and the events leading up to the crime.
