RAJAHMUNDRY: Lok Sabha member from Rajahmundry, D Purandeswari, has urged the Centre to undertake the restoration and holistic development of Kuchipudi village in Andhra Pradesh. As the birthplace of the renowned classical dance form, Kuchipudi, the village is home to numerous hereditary artists and historical landmarks dating back to the 16th century. However, it currently lacks adequate infrastructure and preservation measures.
Elaborating on the need for development, the Rajahmundry MP S, “Establishing modern facilities such as state-of-the-art performing arts centers, museums, recording studios, and visitor amenities will help protect this invaluable heritage.” She further emphasized, “Empowering the local community, particularly women and youth, through skill development in costume making, jewelry design, and other related crafts will create sustainable livelihoods and drive economic growth.”
Additionally, she highlighted the importance of digitizing manuscripts, archival materials, audio-video recordings, and cultural artifacts to preserve Kuchipudi's rich legacy for future generations. She expressed hope that recognition as a Unesco World Heritage site would significantly enhance global visibility, boost tourism opportunities, and elevate India's vibrant cultural presence on the international stage.
Purandeswari strongly urged the Centre to extend its full support, including financial assistance and infrastructural backing, to transform Kuchipudi village into a global cultural destination. She said that this initiative aligns perfectly with the nation’s vision of preserving heritage, promoting tourism, and fostering inclusive economic empowerment at the grassroots level.
