Prayagraj: The implementation of an active beat system has proved to be a significant step for Pratapgarh police to boost safety and crime control. The new active beat system, apart from aiming to fortify security measures and enhance police presence in critical areas, benefits residents by ensuring a safer environment has also helped police catch wanted criminals and history-sheeters.
The brainchild of SP (Pratapgarh) Dr Anil Kumar, the active beat system is designed for rigorous monitoring, which has not only improved communication between the police and the community, but also has strengthened the police's ability to curb criminal activities effectively.
The system focuses on heightened vigilance in all areas, particularly crime-prone pockets across the district.
Through these systems, beat in-charges not only stay in consistent touch with residents, fostering trust and encouraging collaborative crime prevention, but also maintain a strict watch on criminals.
Station house officer (Patti) Avan Kumar told TOI, "After preparing the thana-wise dossier of criminals involved in seven specific types of crime, including murder, loot, robbery, cow slaughtering, smuggling, snatching, extortion, and theft/burglary, beat constables or in-charges are assigned specific duties to keep an eye on lawbreakers whose names surfaced in the past 10 years and take corrective actions accordingly."
He added, "This active beat system has helped police catch over 34 wanted and hardened criminals in a short span of one month across the district."
In the active beat system, areas are divided into smaller segments to enable more detailed and continuous monitoring within each beat area.
Senior police officers have also cracked the whip on their subordinates, asking them to initiate corrective measures and maintain beat books listing all inputs, such as disputes with precaution.
With the help of a hi-tech police control room and a network of CCTVs installed at markets and other prime locations of the town, the police can ascertain the identities of petty offenders and troublemakers.
