ALLAHABAD: Civil Lines police on Friday claimed to have busted a gang involved in snatching purse and mobiles and arrested two notorious snatchers near GHS crossing when they were planning to escape from city. The police have also recovered 19 looted mobile sets, one motorcycle (pulsar) and a luxury car from their possession.
The arrested persons were identified as Irshad Ali alias Ali and Nandan singh alias Anand , residents of Civil Lines and Pratapgarh respectively.
Police said that Irshad ali was pursuing his B.Com while Nandan Singh had completed his post graduation.
Inspector, Civil Lines, Amar Nath Yadav told TOI that the arrested persons hail from reputed families and are pursuing their graduation and post-graduation. He added that the arrested youths had executed at least 10 snatching in posh civil lines area alone.
Inspector further added that the gang of five youths was operating in different parts of the city including Colonelganj, Georgetown, Civil Lines Shivkuti and adjoining areas.
Three members of gang including Rakesh Yadav, Vikram Singh and Rahul Singh were still absconding.
The snatchers accumulated so much money from looted jewellery, purse and mobiles that they had purchased a luxury four wheeler from Mumbai.
The modus operandi is simple. After identifying the gullible target, the miscreants follow the victim from back side and snatch the purse or chain/mobile at deserted spot.
The miscreants used to find fairer sex as soft target anticipating that they could not be able to raise alarms.
