Muslim groups to protest proposed Waqf bill in Delhi on Thursday
Agra: The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and other Muslim organisations have announced a large-scale protest against the proposed Waqf bill at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, on Thursday. The demonstration aims to oppose what the Muslim community sees as a "threat to our religious and constitutional identity".
Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Madani and general secretary Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi have extended their full support to the protest. They said that if the govt remains firm on the Waqf Bill, it will be seen as an "attempt to erase the religious identity of Muslim Waqf properties".
Maulana Madani said, "Waqf is not personal property; it belongs to Allah. Any modifications or govt interference in its basic status are not only against Sharia principles but also a violation of the Constitution."
Jamiat leaders urged the govt to refrain from interfering in Muslim religious matters and to seriously consider the objections raised regarding the bill. They called upon "all justice-loving citizens, religious scholars, and social leaders to participate in full strength in this peaceful protest and actively contribute to the protection of democratic and constitutional rights".
Jamiat general secretary Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi told TOI, "We have invited several Muslim organisations, including Jamaat-e-Islami and Jamiat Ahle Hadees, to express our strong dissent and anger against this bill. People have been urged to join the protest on Thursday morning."
