Netflix is back with the seventh season of Formula 1: Drive to Survive, and executive producer James Gay-Rees is already excited about the upcoming season. He believes it will be even more “juicy,” as it will follow Lewis Hamilton’s time at Ferrari alongside Charles Leclerc, who won’t “play second fiddle” to him within the team.

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc to feature in Drive to Survive season 8?

Rees is confident that the internal competition between Hamilton and Leclerc at Ferrari will be fascinating to watch. He said, “To have the chance to refresh and reinvigorate your appetite, and have a new challenge like that, is brilliant.”
Hinting at how the two might bond yet compete as part of Ferrari, he added, “I’m a massive Lewis fan, and I’m also a Charles fan. Obviously, it’s all very polite and respectful right now, but Charles is not going to want to play second fiddle, is he? I can’t wait to see those two go at it.”
“I would love Ferrari to be super-competitive. It would be amazing if those guys were in the mix and competing against each other for real – for the big one. It could be juicy!” he continued.
Leclerc has been at Ferrari since 2019, and his performance last season has contributed to his confidence for the upcoming year. For the first time in his career, he won the Monaco Grand Prix on his home turf after starting from pole position. This achievement is prominently featured in the fifth episode of Drive to Survive season 7, titled Le Curse of Leclerc.
Meanwhile, Hamilton is settling in well at Ferrari, having customized his steering wheel layout as well as the clutch and gearbox paddle to suit his needs—similar to what he was accustomed to during his decade-long stint at Mercedes.

Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, has stated in a media interaction that there is no pressure on Leclerc, who is focusing solely on his performance. Ferrari had lost out on the Constructors’ Championship last year, with McLaren dominating the track. However, this year, the team is hopeful for big wins with the two strong drivers. The season begins on March 16 with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
