NITK holds annual ring presentation
Mangaluru: National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, held its annual ring presentation ceremony at its campus here on Thursday. A total of 2,015 graduating students received silver rings engraved with the NITK emblem and their year of graduation from faculty members.
The tradition, initiated by Prof AS Adke over 50 years ago, is unique in India. The silver ring not only connects graduates to their alma mater but also unites alumni worldwide.
Sai Priya, a BTech mining engineering student, was honoured as the Best Outgoing Student with a gold medal, Teekay's prize fund and a gold ring. Soumi Ganguly and Diviz Akkshat, also from BTech mining engineering, received gold and silver medals respectively for their achievements.
Niranjan Mahabaappa, president of NITK Alumni Association, was the chief guest, and Umar Teekay, managing director of Teekay Groups, was the guest of honour. The ceremony was presided over by Prof B Ravi, director of NITK, and other dignitaries include Prof AC Hegde, dean of Students Welfare; Prof Dwarakesh, dean of Academics; K Ravindranath, registrar; along with functionaries, faculty, and staff of NITK Surathkal.
