Yankees face uncertainty as MLB is yet to decide action on team's star player after recent Steinbrenner field controversy

Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a heated on-field moment when umpire John Bacon gave him a strike, which was supposedly a bad call. Chisholm's outburst led him to getting ejected after which the player posted about it on X, violating MLB's rules. Though the post is now deleted, it seems MLB has already seen it and might take a strong disciplinary act against the player in the near future.

Key Highlights

  • Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a scene with umpire John Bacon over a bad call leading to his ejection from the game
  • Jazz Chisholm Jr. made a post about it on X and deleted immediately
  • MLB reviewing the incident which might lead to a strict disciplinary action against Chisholm
The night of 17 April 2025, when the New York Yankees were facing the Tampa Bay Rays in the Steinbrenner field, the former had not expected to be in the middle of a controversy within hours of the match. The night of doom went on to make things ugly for the Yankees as MLB is going to review the incident. What does that mean? Well, in simple words, someone might get suspended from upcoming games, unless, there’s a miracle.

What happened in the Steinbrenner field?

What happened on that fateful night? Well, Jazz Chisholm Jr. was at bat, all ready to face Rays’ reliever Mason Montgomery. The reliever pitched a fastball that almost touched the zone’s edge (maybe), and the next minute, umpire John Bacon called it a strike. Before the onlookers could react to it, Chisholm gave a really strong reaction.
He threw his bat, slammed his helmet, and started protesting against the umpire’s decision. When the cameras zoomed in, onlookers could see the player mouthing, “That was not close.” Before things could escalate, the Yankees manager, Aaron Boone, came onto the field and attempted to resolve things.

But, the damage was already done. Bacon ejected Chisholm off the game, and an angry Chisholm was seen stomping off the field. While fans expected him to calm down in the locker room, he did the exact opposite.
Chisholm went on to X, and tweeted, “Not even f–ing close!!!!!”
Though he deleted the tweet immediately, it was caught by fans and MLB as well. When asked about it later on, Jazz replied, “I do not care if it’s a violation. I did what I did. I could live up to my responsibilities.”

MLB’s reaction to Jazz Chisholm Jr. tweet

Why did Chisholm delete the tweet? Maybe someone forced him to or maybe he got his senses back, whatever be the reason, MLB saw the tweet, and it is not so happy.
What happened on the Steinbrenner field was already bad, but the tweet did make the situation worse. MLB already has strong rules, one of which is players are not allowed to use any kind of electronic devices, which Chisholm clearly violated.

Will this lead to a disciplinary action? The chances of Chisholm getting a suspension from MLB are quite high, though only time will tell the extremities of the disciplinary action. MLB is yet to make any official comment on this matter.
