MADURAI: Heavy rain continued to lash Tenkasi and Tirunelveli districts on Saturday night and Sunday flooding streams in the Western Ghats and increasing inflow to reservoirs in the region. A makeshift bridge at Sathakaranpatti near Srivaikundam was washed away in flash floods.
Tirunelveli received heavy rain for the fourth day on Sunday. Sivanthipatti in the district received 123mm rain till morning, while Themangulam in Tuticorin recorded 117mm of rainfall, and Srivaikundam, 106 mm.
Tenkasi district administration banned entry to Courtallam falls for the second day including Puli Aruvi, a section of the falls. Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve authorities stopped bathing by visitors at Kalakkad Thalayani falls until further orders, but visitors were allowed to view the falls.
Inflow into Papanasam dam was at the rate of 1,900 cusecs and into Manimuthuru dam at the rate of 675 cusecs on Sunday morning. Manimuthur dam water level stood at 88.03 feet against its total 118ft, while Papanasam dam level filled up to 80.8 feet against its maximum 143 feet.

Manjolai hill station received heavy rainfall with Oothu recording 79mm, Nalumukku 74mm, and Kakkachi and Manjolai 67mm and 60mm, respectively. A makeshift bridge was set up in place of the one washed away at Sathakaranpatti as around 100 families residing in the hamlet have been stranded.
