Meer Ali to play Lord Indra for the sixth time on television in Veer Hanuman

Meer Ali has been cast as Lord Indra in Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Veer Hanuman – Bolo Bajrang Bali Ki Jai. Interestingly, this marks the sixth time he’s portrayed the character, following roles in Vighnaharta Ganesh, RadhaKrishn, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki, Tulsidham Ke Laddu Gopal, and the ongoing Shrimad Ramayan.
He shares, “It’s amazing to carry the character from Ramayan, which ends on March 10, to Veer Hanuman, launching the very next day. I feel fortunate to reprise the role of Indra, especially since he’s considered one of the most handsome gods. It’s flattering to be tagged as good-looking, but Indra also has so many layers. That gives me the freedom to experiment and keep things fresh.”
While many actors shy away from playing similar roles repeatedly, Meer enjoys the challenge of making Indra feel different every time. “The key is to keep improving my performance,” he explains, adding, "I try to bring something new each time. It’s like serving the same dish but presenting it in a new style, garnished differently. Whether it’s my body language, expressions, or even adjusting my tone and speech, I constantly try to evolve. I experiment with the rate of speech, tonality, and physicality. The more I play Indra, the more confident I become. It’s easy because I’ve done it before, but it’s still challenging because I want to make it feel fresh. I know the character well, so now I can push its boundaries and explore new facets.”
The also notes that he doesn’t mind being typecast in mythological shows, emphasising that for him, acting is about the craft, not the genre. He says, “I don’t view it as just mythology. Acting is acting. I approach each role naturally, aiming to bring realism to my portrayal. The times are changing, and the more grounded and subtle your performance, the more it resonates with today’s audience. Excess melodrama feels outdated. My goal is to keep the acting contemporary, ensuring it connects with younger viewers. The creative team and directors of Veer Hanuman have also encouraged us to make the performances pacy and modern.”
That said, Meer isn’t confined to one genre. During his time on Shiv Shakti, he ventured into the web space, also working on the family drama thriller Madirakshi Mundle. “Acting is my ultimate adrenaline rush. When I’m in front of the camera, I’m completely in the moment, enjoying the process, no matter the genre. Whether it’s mythology, drama, or thriller, I’m focused on giving my best performance,” he concludes.
