Elon Musk look-alike rejects comparison, calls him 'not a nice person’; reveals his unwanted fame

Hugo One, a 28-year-old singer from Luxembourg, is grappling with unexpected fame due to his resemblance to Elon Musk. While the comparison has boosted his social media presence and music downloads, Hugo finds it more of a burden, disliking Musk's personality and behavior. He emphasizes his desire to be recognized for his own artistic identity, not as a lookalike.

One of the singers in Luxembourg, who is 28 years old and named Hugo One, has surprisingly found himself at the centre of attention, not due to his songs, but owing to his startling similarity to entrepreneur Elon Musk. Although most people would find this comparison flattering, Hugo has assured that he takes this viral attention as an unwanted distraction. Hugo believes that the similarity is not a blessing, but rather more of a burden, as revealed by a SWNS report.

Elon Musk lookalike frequently mistaken in public spaces

Hugo One has revealed that he gets confused with the billionaire in ordinary places like grocery stores and nightlife areas. Strangers approach him, believing he is Musk himself. A recent video on his Instagram account caught one of these moments, where a group of students eagerly swarmed around him, screaming, "You're Elon Musk!" They eagerly snapped selfies with him, only to be openly shocked when he explained that he wasn't the actual Musk. Even after his efforts to correct them, Hugo says the suspicion often persists.

Such encounters are anything but isolated incidents. Hugo estimates that at least twice a month, strangers approach him, sometimes with requests to take pictures with him or comments about how he looks like Musk. He recalled a specific night when several groups of people approached him within a short period. "They were the fifth set of people to approach me that night – I was done," he remembered. While such attention may appear harmless, it can be psychologically exhausting in the long run.

Elon Musk resemblance brings fame Hugo didn’t want, but can’t ignore

Hugo has no qualms about sharing his distaste for being equated with Elon Musk. During an interview with the New York Post, he clarified that he doesn't find the comparison flattering. His reasons extend beyond physical similarities—he simply does not have a liking for Musk's behaviour or personality. "I don't appreciate being complimented by being equated to Elon because he is not a good person," Hugo stated, further adding in a biting manner, "He is also not so good looking." This frank rebuff is characteristic of Hugo's need to stand on his own merits instead of constantly being compared to someone whom he does not respect.
Though Hugo is irritated with the repeated comparisons, he concedes that the viral fame has unexpectedly benefited his music career. Ever since the students' incident went viral, his social media traffic has gone through the roof. "It's generated some wonderful traffic to my page and people are downloading my songs," he said. He also mentioned that although he does not like the attention itself, sometimes he enjoys the humour in the situations—especially when the people involved are friendly and good-natured. "I took it as a laugh because they were a nice, friendly group of lads," he further added.

Elon Musk's resemblance first noted in 2018 during Hugo’s teaching days

Hugo's similarity to Elon Musk was first observed in 2018 when he was a teacher in Germany. He was teaching English and French at the time and had not yet gained widespread public fame. One of his students was the first to notice the resemblance, which has since become a recurring feature in his life. With social media and the audience boost that it has brought him, these comparisons have only increased and are more difficult to avoid.
While he is accommodating of the occasional misinterpretation, Hugo is adamant that he has no desire to be identified with Musk's individual opinions or philosophies. "So long as people understand that I don't share Elon or his beliefs, then I don't care," he stated. What concerns him most is that individuals would mistake his identity for that of the tech mogul when, in reality, he wishes to be recognised by his own artistic voice and autonomy.
