Panaji: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has told participating clubs that they can register and field six foreign players at the Super Cup.
The 16-team knockout tournament is scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from April 20 to May 3 and includes participation from all top-tier Indian Super League (ISL) teams and three from the I-League. Defending champions East Bengal will face Kerala Blasters in the opener.
According to guidelines sent to the clubs on Monday, “a participating club can register up to a maximum of six foreign players and may start a match with all six foreign players.”
In the top-tier ISL and second-tier I-League, clubs are allowed to register six foreign players but only four can take the field.
The winners of the Super Cup will qualify for the 2025-26 AFC Champions League Two preliminary round.
According to the fixtures released by the AIFF on Monday, the 13 ISL teams have been seeded for the round of 16 according to their final league position in the season. Three I-League teams– Churchill Brothers FC Goa, Inter Kashi, and Gokulam Kerala FC – have confirmed their participation and will face Mohun Bagan Super Giant, FC Goa and Bengaluru FC in the pre-quarterfinals. The match-ups will be decided by a draw on Wednesday.
If the scores are level at the end of 90 minutes in the round of 16, quarterfinals and semifinals, there will be no extra time, and a penalty shoot-out will determine the winner.
