Film Padavi Poorva marks the debut of producer Hariprasad Jayanna as a director and will see Pruthvi Shamanur,
Anjali Anish and Yasha Shivakumar in lead roles. The debut director who worked as an associate for
Yogaraj Bhat films like Vaastu Prakaara and Mugulu Nage, started as a producer, and has now embraced the art of film making.
Hariprasad joins a growing list of engineers in Sandalwood.
“I was in the US for six years, but my passion was always cinema which made me take up a filmmaking course. It was accidental that I turned producer, yet it gave me immense knowledge about man and money management, scheduling, etc which came in handy while directing my first project, Padavi Poorva,” says Hariprasad.
Elaborating further, he says, “The film, set in a modern day, takes us back to the nostalgic period of 1995-1996. The maincharacters are in the age bracket of 16 to 17 years of age. They have an aim in life – about having a first love, which is a rarely touched upon subject in Sandalwood. With romance, fun and emotional elements, we shot in the Malnad region extensively by erecting sets to recreate a bygone era. I was also the production in-charge and that made my job challenging balancing both. ”
The songs are special too as it is the first time Yogaraj Bhat and the music director havecollaborated for all the songs in a film.
Casting newbies Pruthvi and Anjali Anish, the producer-turned-director shares, “We used the lockdown to train them immaculately, and thissaved time shooting. We held a workshop to teach voice culture, dialogue delivery, body language and intonations because in one scene there were as many as 15 artistes, so wehad to ensure they gave their best shot. ”
The director collaborates with Pruthvi for the second time in this commercial entertainer. “When we began shooting, Pruthvi was just 17, now he is in his 20s, and has gained muscle bodybuilding, and learning martial arts. He is now aptly suited for commercial films,” he concludes. The film releases on December 30.
