Talking about how much the
Indian film industry has changed from the time he started till now,
Shekhar Kapur says, "Every day I get up, and I hear, industry khatam ho gayi hai. I never believe anybody. If you look at the history of cinema, pehle silent films thi. Jab sound aaya toh sabne kaha, ab cinema toh khatam ho gaya. Jab B&W se colour aaya toh sabne kaha, cinema khatam ho gaya. Jab raw stock se digital hua tha, tab sabne kaha, cinema khatam ho gaya. Cinema kabhi khatm nahi hua. Storytelling doesn’t change."
He continues, "The only thing is we need to adapt. So, we just need to constantly be aware of the new technologies because if we are not, then people who are aware will catch up and beat us. What has changed is technology. From the time I started with 35 mm cameras and expensive raw film, I’ve watched technology change over the years. The first time I made a big series, it was on Shakespeare. That was the first time I used digital cameras, and then I understood that it’s a different technique, so that technique changed."
