Did you know the binary digital code in ‘The Matrix’ was actually Japanese sushi recipes

A theatrical blockbuster at the time of its release in 1999, 'The Matrix' proved to be a big advancement in cinematic visual effects.
Set in the 22nd century, the film tells the story of a computer hacker (Keanu Reeves) who joins a group of underground insurgents fighting the vast and powerful computers who rule the earth.
But, did you know that the binary digital code rain that appears in the film, was just Japanese text of sushi recipes? It was brought to light that the codes were created by Simon Whiteley, a production designer from England after he scanned the characters from his wife’s Japanese cookbooks.
In addition to amazing effects, the stellar cast, including Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving and Joe Pantoliano, helped make 'The Matrix' a modern sci-fi classic.
