Porvorim: There were 129 breakdowns in 12 of the 14 elevators at GMC’s superspecialty block between June 2024 and February 2025, health minister Vishwajit Rane said in a written reply in the House on Monday.
Two elevators worked fine, but elevator numbers 2, 3, and 4 had the highest number of breakdowns, with 16, 11, and 15 breakdowns respectively.
In case any lifts are found to be non-functional, the facility management team of Ecoclean Systems and Solutions informs the administration office of the superspecialty block. Accordingly, a vendor is instructed to examine the faults and repair the non-functional lifts, Rane stated.
“The lifts are under an annual maintenance contract and all of them are functional on most days,” he said and added that at present, 11 lifts are functional and only three are non-functional.
“The non-functional lifts will be repaired as soon as possible. The issue is actively pursued with the vendor,” he stated while responding to a question by MLA Viresh Borkar on the steps the public health department is taking to ensure that patients’ and doctors’ convenience and well-being are enhanced with regards to infrastructure such as working elevators.
