VIJAYAWADA: BFG India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bahrain-based BFG International, is redefining India’s transportation landscape with world-class Fibre-Reinforced Plastic (FRP) solutions.
Since establishing its advanced manufacturing unit at Sri City SEZ in 2009, the company has been supplying lightweight, durable, and fire-resistant FRP products to the rail, marine, wind energy, and infrastructure sectors. Transforming the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express as Indian Railways steps into a new era, BFG India has made significant contributions to the Vande Bharat sleeper express.
The company was entrusted with designing, manufacturing, and installing interiors, modular toilet cabins, and aerodynamic front ends for the 16-coach train.
The train features 823 berths and 51 toilets, including accessible cabins. BFG, the first to supply EN45545 HL3-compliant FRP panels in India, has delivered advanced front ends using Kevlar, a Nomex core, and phenolic resin ensuring high fire safety and structural integrity.
Premamoorthy K, vice president of BFG India, said: “Our commitment to innovation and quality is evident in every FRP component we manufacture. The Vande Bharat Sleeper project reflects BFG India’s dedication to revolutionising railway infrastructure with world-class, lightweight, and durable solutions.”
Earlier, BFG India supplied interiors, toilet cabins, and front ends for the inaugural Vande Bharat express within a record 10 months, fabricating 329 types of FRP panels in various colours to match design specifications. Elevating metro rail projects BFG India has also played a critical role in India’s metro development.
It has supplied FRP interiors— including driver cabs, ceilings, sidewalls, and partitions—for metro systems in Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Lucknow, and Kochi. By partnering with global OEMs like Alstom, Bombardier, and Titagarh, BFG delivers fire-resistant, lightweight solutions meeting international standards.
In the Mumbai monorail project with Medha Bogies Pvt. Ltd., BFG provided FRP components such as passenger seats, driver consoles, aerodynamic masks, and structural elements—enhancing safety and efficiency.
Expanding its scope beyond rail, BFG India contributed to India’s first ferry-based urban transport—Kochi water metro. At its Sri City facility, it manufactured 25-meter-long, 6.5-meter-wide catamaran ferry superstructures using vacuum infusion technology.
These ferries, assembled at Cochin Shipyard Ltd., each carry 100 passengers and are designed for marine efficiency and safety. Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy, founder and managing director of Sri City, remarked, “It is heartening to see BFG’s ‘Made at Sri City’ FRP products being used across multiple sectors, including railways and marine transport. This truly reflects Sri City’s vision of being a hub for world-class manufacturing under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.”
A hub for advanced manufacturing BFG India’s 23,600 sq. m facility at Sri City houses cutting-edge systems—gelcoat booths, robotic programming, spray chambers, vacuum moulding, and cold storage for phenolic resins—supporting integration of composites into modern mobility.
With innovation, localisation, and quality at its core, BFG India is building a resilient, self-reliant transport ecosystem.
