Mulayam Singh Yadav's minority commitment doubtful: BJP

VARANASI: While SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav may have praised BJP veteran LK Advani on multiple occasions, the newly appointed national spokesperson of BJP Vijay Sonkar Shastri has raised doubts on about Mulayam's minority commitment.
"Samajwadi Party ke mukhiya ka alpsankhyak moh par mujhe sandeh hai (I have doubts over SP chief's minority affinity)" said Shastri while talking to reporters here on Monday.

"If he (Mulayam) is committed to them, why is the minority community deceived whenever an opportunity arises for SP to do something for them?" he asked, adding, "Why is a leader like Azam Khan not projected for the post of Prime Minister or chief minister of UP?"
He said the father is dreaming for the PM's post after the son has become the CM of UP. "Where is Azam Khan in the whole scene even as the SP chief shows his love for the minorities," questioned Shastri. In praise of the Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, he said BJP gained confidence of the minority community, which was reflected in Gujarat. It was the minority support that helped Modi to become the chief minister of Gujarat for the third time, he insisted.
Shastri also targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent statement. "Rahul Gandhi wants to strengthen Gram Pradhans, but he should first strengthen the Pradhan Mantri for better and effective governance," he jibed, accusing Rahul Gandhi of misleading the people. "Rahul Gandhi said that now his party would move forward with the poor. Was the Congress not with the poor till now, or was the 20-point programme for poverty alleviation merely a delusion?" he said, adding that the Congress would have to pay heavily for deception in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
