VARANASI: The annual election (2012-13) of the Varanasi branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA) was declared null and void by the election tribunal constituted by the UP State branch of IMA. When contacted on Wednesday, president of the tribunal, Dr Ashok Agarwal confirmed that the declaration.
The election was held on September 23. Dr OP Tiwari, who was a candidate for the post of president, filed a petition for declaring the entire election as null and void, and to hold fresh election under the supervision of IMA, UP State branch.
In its order dated December 15, the tribunal stated that for the sanctity and purity of the annual elections of Banaras branch, the tribunal declares the election null and void, and directs the president and joint secretaries of the branch to prepare fresh electoral roll of valid voters. The tribunal states that the list be supplied to the election officer and published on the notice board of the Banaras branch within a period of seven days from the receipt of this decision. It also directs the election officer to hold annual election by Jaunary 31, 2013.
However, the officer bearers of the IMA, Banaras branch were yet to get the copy of the tribunal’s decision.
