GORAKHPUR: A four-month-old fetus was found hanging from overhead electrical wires behind Sahjanwa railway station in Gorakhpur on Friday, triggering panic among the people.
Locals alerted the police after spotting the fetus entangled in the wires near the Keshavpur power substation located behind Platform-2 of Sahjanwa railway station. Some residents even captured the videos of the grim scene before the authorities arrived.
Upon reaching the spot, police sent the fetus for post-mortem examination. Initial investigation suggests that the fetus was thrown from a height, possibly after an abortion carried out elsewhere.
Police are scanning the CCTV footage from the area to identify those involved. The investigation is focused on a 500-metre radius from the site, which includes a hospital.
"Without trained medical staff, performing such a procedure is not easy," said a senior police official. Investigators are also looking into local couples who may be linked to the case.
SP North Jitendra Srivastava said: "We're analysing the CCTV footage and conducting door-to-door inquiries in nearby homes. It's possible that the fetus might have been thrown from a nearby railway-side building."
