TRICHY: DMK president M K Stalin called on ailing AIADMK leader and former DMK forest minister N Selvaraj and enquired about his health at a private hospital in Trichy on Thursday.
DMK south district secretary and former minister KN Nehru also accompanied Stalin.
Stalin’s gesture has been widely appreciated by people in Trichy cutting across party lines.
When
Vaiko was forced to come out of DMK in 1994, in revolt against Stalin, N Selvaraj was one among the nine district secretaries who quit the DMK and accompanied Vaiko to start MDMK.
It is to be noted that it was N Selvaraj who read out the resolution expelling DMK president M
Karunanidhi and general secretary K Anbazhagan from the party at MDMK’s first meeting held in Trichy in 1994.
However, Selvaraj came back to DMK and became state minister for forest department after winning in the assembly election in 2006 from Musiri assembly segment.
After he was denied a ticket to contest from the Manachanallur assembly constituency in 2016, Selvaraj quit DMK and joined the AIADMK.
Selvaraj accused Stalin of deliberately insulting him at the instigation of former minister and party’s district secretary KN Nehru.
However, he was not given seat either in the AIADMK too, sources said.
