Trichy: Agriculture minister M R K Panneerselvam on Tuesday claimed that farmers in the state are not driven to extremes under DMK governance, crediting chief minister M K Stalin's proactive approach in addressing their concerns.
Speaking at the 30th national convention of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) in Nagapattinam, Panneerselvam said, "While farmers across the country are protesting against the Union government, there has been no such unrest in Tamil Nadu."
Kerala agriculture minister P Prasad and senior CPI leader R Mutharasan also addressed the gathering. The three-day convention, held from April 15 to 17, has drawn thousands of AIKS members and CPI representatives from across the country.
The convention passed several resolutions, including demands to waive longstanding crop loans, compensate crop losses, and provide pensions for elderly farmers. Delegates also called for enhanced benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme and urged implementation of the Kolappan Committee recommendations to improve the welfare of agricultural labourers.
