4 booked for land fraud, impersonation
Trichy: City Crime Branch (CCB) unit of Trichy city police has booked four people on charges of impersonation and forgery of documents to claim ownership and sell a piece of land. The accused were booked under seven sections of IPC on Wednesday night but no arrest was made in the crime committed over 10 years since Nov 2015.
Police said one S Laxmana Mohan owns 2,400 square feet of residential land at Fathima Nagar in Woraiyur. Recently, when his family applied for an encumbrance certificate (EC) for the land, they found that it was registered in the name of another person. Inquiries revealed that one R Suresh Kumar and S Sathish had fraudulently sold a portion of the land to one S Sangitha and pledged the remaining land to one N Devan Chakravarthy. The accused impersonated Laxmana Mohan and submitted a complaint to Gandhi Market police station claiming that the land documents were missing.
Subsequently, based on the community service register (CSR) provided by the police, they forged a document and gave power to themselves to claim ownership and sell the land unlawfully. Police said that one of the accused, S Sangitha, was not initially aware of the fraudulent activity. But, she attempted to sell the land during inquiry, police added. Based on a complaint lodged by the land owner's sister S Dhanalakshmi, a case was booked by CCB Trichy against Suresh Kumar, Sathish, Sangitha and Devan Chakravarthy under seven sections including IPC 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of a property), 468 (forgery), and 471 (using a forged document). Further investigations are underway to ascertain if more people are involved.
