Woman sets self, her two kids on fire in Kollam

T'puram: In a tragic incident, a 36-year-old woman and her two daughters died after the woman allegedly set all three on fire in Thazhava near Karunagapally in Kollam.
The deceased were identified as Thara G Krishnan, wife of Girish Kumar of Kattilkadavu near Kulasekharapuram. Her two daughters, Anamika, 6, and a one-and-a-half-year-old named Athmika, also died later while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit at Alappuzha Vandanam medical college hospital.
Thara was living separately from her husband, who is employed in Dubai. For over a year, she stayed with her children in a rented house in Achayath.
According to locals, thick smoke was seen billowing from the house around 2.30pm on Tuesday, leading them to suspect a fire. On rushing in, they found Thara and her children engulfed in flames. Thara's father, Gopalakrishnan, who lived with them, was away at a nearby shop when the incident occurred.
Preliminary investigations suggest Thara doused herself and her children in petrol and set them ablaze.
Earlier that day, Thara reportedly visited her husband's family and was involved in a dispute over property. Karunagappally Police intervened and convinced her to return home. Thara was a qualified nurse and previously worked abroad. Karunagapally Police have launched a detailed investigation.
