kozhikode: i m vijayan, star striker of the east bengal football team, has said he has not thought about retiring from football in the near future. vijayan, who underwent an arthroscopic surgery on his right knee for a cartilage injury at a private hospital here on sunday, told reporters he would be in the game as long as he could "shine." the ace striker was reacting to the remarks of his former coach a m sreedharan who opined that it was time for vijayan to retire.
vijayan denied the charge that he was skipping training camps to devote more time for acting in films. he had already starred in two malayalam films, including the award-winning santham by director jayaraj, and signed up for two more. he said football was his first passion and he would return to the field once he recovered from the minor injury. sheller jose, the doctor who performed the surgery, has advised three weeks' rest for vijayan.
