THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KPCC subcommittee led by vice-president M M Hassan will collect evidence on the controversial letter sent by party leader Shanimol Usman to KPCC president V M Sudheeran after May 20.
A meeting of the subcommittee, which also comprises vice-president Lali Vincent and general secretary P M Suresh Babu, here on Saturday examined the issue and decided to proceed with the inquiry after the election results.
Hassan told reporters after the meeting that there was no need for collecting evidence from Sudheeran. "We won't collect evidence from KPCC office-bearers who had commented on the issue. We will first hear Shanimol and Alappuzha DCC president A A Shukkoor who had complained about Shanimol's inaction during the campaign. The committee will also hear district leaders in Alappuzha," he said.
Shanimol had levelled serious criticism against Sudheeran's style of functioning in her letter and criticized that he too had breached the party discipline by publicizing the disciplinary action against her. In response, Sudheeran had asked the KPCC subcommittee to probe her allegations and raised a suspicion that Shanimol's action might have been prompted by the liquor mafia.
The KPCC subcommittee collected evidence from leaders in Kollam on the complaint against the functioning of DCC president Prathapavarma Thampan. Earlier, Thampan had alleged that a section of leaders, led by INTUC state president R Chandrasekharan, had been inactive in the election campaign.
Sources said several leaders who deposed before the commission on Saturday registered their displeasure over the functioning of Thampan. Senior leaders, including Union MoS Kodikkunnil Suresh, Bharatheepuram Sasi, Rajmohan Unnithan and N Azhakesan, had appeared before the commission. The subcommittee will submit its report and recommendation for action to the KPCC president by the month end.
