International energy fest to commence today
Thiruvananthapuram: The International Energy Festival of Kerla (IEFK), organised by the Energy Management Centre, will begin in the state capital on Friday. Electricity minister K Krishnankutty will inaugurate the festival at the Thycaud police grounds. The minister will also distribute the state energy conservation awards during the event.
This year's festival is based on the theme ‘Carbon Free Kerala'. The main goals of IEFK are to ensure energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and strengthen global cooperation in energy conservation activities. The festival will feature technical sessions, panel discussions, various training sessions, Kerala Students Energy Congress competitions, public exhibitions, and a mega quiz for students and the general public.
The first day will witness the launch of the Asia Low Carbon Building Transition Project website, panel discussions led by agencies like the India Smart Grid Forum and Clasp, and presentations by Kerala State Energy Conservation Award winners.
The inaugural ceremony, chaired by Antony Raju, MLA, will have director of the Energy Management Centre R Harikumar delivering the welcome address. Additional chief secretary of the power department KR Jyothilal will give the keynote address. Attendees will include KSEB managing director and chairman Biju Prabhakar, Navakeralam Karma Padhathi coordinator TN Seema, among others.
Various cultural programmes will also be part of the festival, which will conclude on Feb 9.
