Thiruvananthapuram: The state’s first International Indie Music Festival (IIMF) will be held at Kerala Arts and Crafts Village, Kovalam, from November 9 to 13. Along with seven leading bands and singers from outside India, 14 leading bands from within the country will perform at the music festival. The IIMF is organized in association with Lazie Indie Magazine, an international publication on indie music.
According to the organizers, IIMF is the country’s first indie music festival. Bands and singers like rock music legend Eric Clapton’s nephew Will Johns from UK, popular American hard rock singer Sami Chohfi, another British band Rane, Lyia Meta from Malaysia, Anslom from Papua New Guinea, Rudra from Singapore and Roc Flowers from Italy would perform at the festival.
Participating Indian bands are Mumbai’s Sherise, RCliff, When Chai Met Toast, Harish Sivaramakrishnan’s Agam, Skreen 6, Sithara Krishnakumar’s Project Malabaricus, Oorali, Job Kurian, Chaos, Lazie J, Chandana Rajesh, Thamarassery Churam, Inner Sanctum and Devan Ekambaram.
A total of 21 bands will participate in IIMF with around four to five performances per day. The festival also provides an opportunity for Indian artists to get to know the leading singers of the world, perform with them and thereby rise to a global level.
The music festival is scheduled from 6pm to 10pm every day while the entry will be from 5pm. Tickets for each day’s events can be booked through BookMyShow or purchased through Kerala Arts & Crafts Village. The last date for booking is November 6. Regular visit time to the Crafts Village will end at 5pm on festival days.
A dozen installations, a stage and a
gate are being prepared for the IIMF at the Craft Village premises with a focus on the theme of liberation.
“This culture, which is popular all over the world, is in its infancy in our country and IIMF is designed to nurture it and impart international standards which can be beneficial for tourism development, cultural diversification and the entertainment industry,” said chief operating officer of Kerala Arts and Crafts Village T U Sreeprasad.
“Making such an international festival an annual calendar event will elevate the state's status on the tourism map,” added CEO of Lazie Indie Magazine and singer Jay.
