Corp readies action plan for pre-monsoon cleaning
T'puram: The city corporation has formulated an action plan to complete pre-monsoon cleaning activities by March 30. The key objectives include a litter-free campaign, 100% doorstep collection of inorganic waste and solid-liquid waste management. The corporation council on Saturday unanimously approved the action plan.
The plan will be implemented in each ward, incorporating the state govt's health vigilance guidelines. Ward councillors have been instructed to ensure all activities are completed on time. As part of the initiative, a ward sanitation and health committee, chaired by the ward councillor, will be formed in collaboration with various organisations and institutions.
Subsequently, clusters of 50 houses or institutions will be formed, and sanitation squads will be assigned to them. The public health inspector of each ward will serve as the committee convener. The allocated funds for the initiative will be managed through a joint account of the committee chairman and convener.
In addition to the Rs 1 lakh allocated per ward, the corporation will provide additional funds based on estimated requirements. The council has also issued guidelines, which include a special cleaning plan for polluted water sources. ‘Dry day' is to be observed on Sundays at homes and on Fridays at workplaces. The corporation will collaborate with PWD, irrigation department and KRFB for cleaning drains and canals. Special cleaning drives will be conducted on highways, rivers, coastal areas, hospital compounds and educational institutions. Well chlorination and intensified mosquito control will be implemented in previously identified hotspot areas.
Elected representatives are to ensure compliance with the green protocol for festivals, meetings, processions, rallies and weddings. Residents who report public waste dumping will be considered for the citizen's reward programme. Complaints can be made via WhatsApp at 9446700800.
Newly elected councillor sworn in: V Harikumar, the LDF candidate who won the byelection at the Sreevaraham ward, was sworn in and assumed office on Saturday.
