Earthquake of 4.0 magnitude hits Meghalaya's East Garo Hills

NEW DELHI: An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 struck East Garo Hills in Meghalaya on Friday, official said.
The quake, which originated at a depth of 5 Km, was felt across various parts of the region, prompting concern among local residents.

According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 1.03 pm.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of damage to buildings or infrastructure, and no injuries have been recorded.
Earlier today, a powerful earthquake struck Thailand.
Tremors were experienced in Kolkata and Imphal on Friday following a substantial 7.7-magnitude earthquake that occurred near Bangkok, Thailand. The seismic activity originated in central Myanmar, approximately 50 km to the east of Monywa city.
In Kolkata and surrounding areas, people noticed gentle tremors and observed slight movements in wall-mounted objects during the seismic event.
Official authorities confirmed that no casualties or property damage were recorded in the city as a result of the tremors.
The earthquake triggered alarm amongst the residents of Thangal Bazar in Imphal, an area characterised by numerous aged multi-storey structures.
Police officials stated that no damages have been documented thus far.
